How You Can Install Glueless Laminate Flooring In Any Room
Learning to install glueless laminate flooring is actually a pretty painless process. However, your level of "do it yourself" experience will determine how much time and effort it will likely take to get the job done. There are a few excellent options for you if you are completely new to installing laminate planks that do not have any glue.
You will want to think about what kind of learning you do best. Are you a visual learner? If so, you can watch an instructional video or DVD. You can also read a book or magazine and try to learn each step. If you are the type of person who learns by doing, then your best bet will be to have someone teach you the art of floor installation in person.
There are a few options to learn in person. The cheapest and most inexpensive way is to ask a friend or family member who knows how to lay flooring to come help get you started. Sometimes you just need to learn the basics and then you can take it yourself from there. You can also go take a class at a home improvement store or at a community college.
The good thing about glueless laminate flooring is that there is not a lot of prep work that needs to be done to the material. In most cases, you will be ready to go as soon as you take the planks out of the
Before you start laying down the planks, be sure you let the materials acclimate to your house for a day or two ahead of time. This will help prevent the laminate planks from breaking during the installation process by allowing them
to adjust to the climate inside of your home. This will also lessen the chances of the material swelling or shrinking while you are installing it.
Next, what kind of subfloor do you have? You want to make sure the subfloor is completely level and does not have any kinds of bumps. This can sometimes be a problem in older basements or homes that were built several decades ago. If the floors are flat and ready to do, then its time to make sure they are clean. Also, be absolutely sure that there is not moisture in the floors. This can cause extensive damage to all kinds of flooring including vinyl, hardwood, tiles, bamboo, bamboo laminate, and more.
If there is excess moisture, then you can open the windows and aim a large fan at the affected area. This can sometimes take a day or two, but it will be well worth it in the long run.
When you are cutting the pieces to custom sizes, make sure you do this in a separate room. This prevents sawdust from getting on the floor underneath where the laminate planks will go.
From there, it is just a matter of snapping the planks together and making sure they have a snug fit. Before long you will be a pro at installing glueless laminate flooring and will love the new look. Good luck!
